Zentangles of the Week

I really appreciate all the kind words on my tiles last week. It is so nice to get feedback. Thank you to all those that took the time to comment.

Now on to this week’s tiles . . .

I’ve only managed to get one tile done so far this week. I really need to take some time and draw some more.

iamthedivacztThe Diva Challenge this week is a Use My Tile Challenge using Susan Goetter’s tangle, Fanz. This tangle is new to me and I did not do it justice. I really should have practiced it before actually trying to put it on a tile but alas, hindsight is perfect. ;)

FB□1 ~ LifeofJoy.meI decided to combine the Diva Challenge with the Square One Purely Zentangle Focus again this week. Nipa is the focus tangle for the week. I’ve not done super good with Nipa in the past but I think it turned out pretty good this time around.

Without further ado, here’s the tile.

I see now that some of my shading needed to be smudged a bit more. Oh well. :)

I thought I was doing a tile for the Weekly Zentangle Tangle Video on facebook but turns out Cubine was last week, so I’m a bit late for that one. :( Oh well, I’ll add it here anyway.

I did it on one of my scratch-off rainbow tiles. One previous commenter suggested using calligraphy nibs to scratch tangles on these fun tiles. So I thought I’d give it a try today. Unfortunately I’m going to have to look for some different nibs because the ones I have are either forked or too big. I also used a tine flat head screwdriver but it made the lines too wide or scratchy depending on how I held it. I tried a very tiny phillips head and it seemed to do ok but it too was a bit scratchy. I guess I’ll be continuing my search for the best tools to scratch tangles on these fun tiles.

I used Cubine in two different sizes, Chillon, and Ixorus or Crescent Moon. I’m not quite sure what the difference is between Ixorus and Crescent Moon.

If I get some of my other challenges done, I’ll add them to this post later.

Until next time, God bless,

Michele ºÜº

  1. I agree. you’ve got the Nipa dead right on this tile. I also like the way you have framed the Fanz with it. The shading works well and i think this is a very nice tile.

  2. Smart to combine the two patterns. They make for a nice composition. I think your shading is quite nice too. I have those scratch off tiles and I use an orange stick, the pointed wooden instrument used to clean under fingernails, and it works quite well.

  3. I love the Nippa frame and the cubine scratchboard piece is so fun and upbeat…I always love when color is added.

  4. You did a very nice combination of Nipa and Fanz. The Fanz is very 3D. I felt like I could look through it. I also like your scratch off tile. It brought back lots of memories. We used to do this in school. Unfortunately, I don’t quite remember the technique. Fortunately, the internet was invented, so I can look it up in cyberspace.

    1. Thank you Suzanne! I remember a tile similar that we used in school too. We used a tool with a ‘v’ notch. I don’t remember if there were different different sized tools or not. If I remember correctly, after we tooled out our design, we rolled it with ink and pressed it on paper. :)
