Bunzo Paradox Duotangle

Since this week’s diva challenge is a duotangle, I cannot combine it with any other focus or daily tangles. I did look at some Bunzo tutorials because I did not recall exactly how to draw it. Oh, I could have guessed but I thought I’d just do a quick refresher and I was glad I did.

It appears that the “official” way to draw Bunzo is with crescent shapes and not loops. Bunzo is not one of my go-to tangles but I enjoyed drawing it today. :)

Paradox is one that I love and have used since I first found Zentangle around seven years ago. I love how it has so much depth to it. Of course, I’ve struggled with how to shade it but am pleased with how it turned out today.

I considered drawing a string but instead went with putting Bunzo a little off-center and then Paradox behind it some how. I wasn’t sure until I actually started penning Paradox just how I was going to accomplish this but it came to me at the right moment. ;)

I considered adding more sections of Paradox but just felt like I was done (and I wasn’t even in a time constraint either :D ).

Here is the tile before shading. Well, I don’t consider the striping on Bunzo to be shading, so that is why I say, “before shading.”

DC#342 pre-shaded ~ Lifeofjoy.meI used my Micron 01 for most of the blackening but ended up using my Pixma graphic 1 to fill in those larger spaces without scratchiness.

Here it is after shading.

DC#342 ~ Lifeofjoy.meI only used my standard #2 pencil for shading. In real life it looks a bit darker. And as always, when I see it larger like this, I can see a little where I didn’t get the pencil marks blended as thoroughly as I would have liked but that’s the difference in my lighting and eyesight and the bright light of the scanner. ;) (Yes, I’m making excuses. LOL)

Here it is a bit smaller. ;)

DC#342 ~ Lifeofjoy.meSee how some of those lines disappear? :)

I really appreciate your kind comments over the last several weeks on my tiles and shading. Shading is an area where I have really grown. I was so afraid to shade in the beginning; afraid I’d mess up the nice work I’d done and now I’m glad for it to cover up my not so nice line art. :D

I got a couple different shading books, which I guess have helped me but they both want you to pay attention to “light source” and that just isn’t always necessary with me. They generally forget that a light source can be pointed directly at an object. :D I always keep in mind how I saw Rick and Maria add some graphite shading on videos; it was always simple and added to the final look so much.

One thing that did really help from Eni Oken’s Shading Fearlessly book was to add more layers of shading and to keep going back over it. That is one thing that I generally apply, even if I’m ignoring “light source.” ;)

Thanks for stopping by. Here in the US, we celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful weekend.

Until next time, God bless,

Michele ºÜº
