Amaze Tree and Steps

iamthedivacztThis weeks’ Diva Challenge is a guest post by Dilip Patel from India. He challenges us to us a tree shape as our string and use a single tangle on it.

The Square One: Purely Zentangle focus is Helen Williams’ tangle Steps. I thought I might use it for my monotange but I hadn’t tried my hand at Steps yet and since I didn’t want to mess up my challenge tile, I decided to use a different tangle for the challenge tile.

I considered which tangle could look like leaves and bark. I didn’t go through very many options in my head before I considered Amaze or Stiritup. I decided it was a good match, besides amaze is a very easy tangle to draw.

Here is what I came up with.

DC#246 ~ Lifeofjoy.me

I then decided to try my hand at steps. Here is my first attempt.

Steps ~ Lifeofjoy.me

It is not shaded and I know that adds tons to a tangle but I do not like this. I think it is about my base line. So I attempted it again on an ATC size tile.

Another Steps ~ Lifeofjoy.meIt is better, still not shaded but still better. I like this a bit better than the first attempt but that isn’t saying much. I guess I’m going to have to look at what others have done with it to figure out how I should draw the base line.

Thank you!!!

I really appreciate the committed commenters! I seldom have the opportunity to check out other’s submissions to the challenge, so when I am so far down the list of contributors, number 51 this last week, I am thrilled that there are people that persevered and even took the time to comment too!

Thank you Ulrike, Maggiebee, AnneMarie, and Jean. I really appreciate your encouragement. And Jean, thanks for pointing out that what I did around purk and hollibaugh was to add the aura enhancement.

Also, thanks to the two that clicked the like heart as well.

Until next time, God bless,

  1. I think you are being a little hard on yourself regarding Steps. It took me ages to get a feel for it and even now I struggle a bit. However, when you get it, you will love doing it. There’s a curved version too, if you haven’t already seen it, look on Helen Williams’ blog, it’s very pretty. It would never have occurred to me to use Amaze, I don’t know why, but this sort of gives the essence of tree, rather than a representation of one. Nice.

  2. Your tree is amazing lol! I continue to be surprised at the variety of tangles selected for the trees, yours is the first I have seen using amaze.
