Conned, Hair Cut, and Panera

Robbers Cave ~ LifeofJoy.me
I love my family!!! Wonderful husband, great sons, and sweet daughters. :)

It amazes me how if someone says something on facebook, people believe it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be on facebook, it could be pretty much anywhere online. I know, people are basically trusting, so we generally believe people until we have seen that they are not trustworthy. Last week someone posted that it was National Daughter’s Day on facebook and after that it just spread.

When I saw the first post, I thought, I don’t think that is a real holiday; so I didn’t post anything. Then the next day I saw even more posts, so I googled it. Turns out, I was right. There is a National Sons and Daughters Day but that was August 11th this year. I don’t know if it will be next year at all. But since I missed it, I have great kids!!!! Love them tremendously and love spending time with them.

Hair Cuts

On  errand day this past week, I decided to finally get my hair cut again. It’s grown out soooo long it is absolutely ridiculous. Not long in the back length but long on the length of layers and on top.

I struggle going to get my hair done because I have a hard time explaining what I want. I’m fashion and hair challenged. You see, I was spoiled in my younger years with a gal who has known me nearly all of her life. She is best friends with and the same age as my baby sister, who is ten years younger than me. Since she saw how I fixed my hair on a weekly basis, when it came time to getting something done to it, all I had to do was go to her and say, “Susan please fix this” and she knew exactly what I wanted done. Then we moved halfway across the country and my hair troubles began.

Not too long ago, she came out to visit with my sister and the three of us went to lunch together. She finally looked at me and said, “Okay, I’m just going to ask it. Why did you cut your hair off?” :D She tried to tell me what I wanted, kind of, and I tried to remember. So when I went to the salon last week, I had the uncomfortable task of trying to explain what I wanted that didn’t turn out to be a mullet or something making me look . . . well, not what I wanted. ;)

Overall, I think she did pretty good . . . but I’m struggling to get it to do what I want it to do. I may end up just giving up and getting it cut short again . . . I don’t know. We have conference at our church next week, so I will have plenty of opportunity to get it to work right.

Panera

Okay, I’m now going to show my ignorance and how reclusive I can be . . . I have never been to Panera, which is a popular bagel (and much more) cafe. Tiffany and I participated in the adult summer reading program at our local library this summer and received a coupon for a free bagel from Panera. Now, just because I’ve never been to Panera does NOT mean that I have never eaten their delicious bagels though.

On errand day, Tiffany and I decided we better use our coupon because it was expiring very soon. So we walk in and are a bit overwhelmed by the choices. It was lunch time so there were the lunch options to consider as well. We ended up just getting our free bagels and a sweet iced tea. The bagels were good, even sans the cream cheese, which is ridiculously expensive in my opinion. Tiff got her favorite, Asiago Cheese, and I got blueberry. The butter was very firm and difficult to spread — in reality, we did not spread the butter, we left it in little chunks on the cut and ever so lightly toasted bagels. The toasting was so slight that it was barely warm at all. The sweet tea was not very good either. All-in-all, it wasn’t so bad that we won’t go back. :)

Before we left, I grabbed a menu so that we can look it over before we visit again. As it turns out, it is the FALL MENU. I guess that it changes from season to season. I’ll be interested to see what all they have and plan what to have next time, so that we have a better experience next time.

Well, that’s enough rambling for today. Have a great weekend.

Until next time, God bless,

Math Facts and Links

Lifeofjoy.meToday’s short and sweet post is a tip and a couple of links for freebies.

Several years ago I learned at a booth at our homeschool convention that the best way for children to learn the math facts is to give them a limited number of flash cards WITH the ANSWERS showing on the front and let the child just read them. After a few times (over a few days or so) give the child a sheet with the math facts an no answers, to see how well he/she is doing in remembering the facts. Any that are incorrect should be immediately corrected. Then review the flash cards again with the answers. Add more facts as he/she masters the current facts.

HomeschoolFreebieOfTheDay

You really should subscribe to their weekly email because this way you get a preview each Sunday of what will be available throughout the week and one extra link to another freebie. They are a tremendous resource.

Yesterday the link was for a dramatized audio of Anne of Green Gables (and is probably still available). There are game ideas for math, science, grammar, and more all in a variety of daily links. Check it out! It’s great! There’s even a link for Autumn Nature Study guide.

FreeHomeschoolDeals

This is another wonderful resource for homeschooling freebies and printables and more. Lots of information here. Definitely worth looking into.

DonnaYoung.org

This has always been a great website for free printables and such. It is a huge resource for all kinds of charts, paper, templates, and such. Look here for handwriting paper, graph paper, planners, and such.

HomeschoolShare

Do you need unit study ideas and printables or labpook ideas? Have a book that you’d like to use as jumping off point? They have a title index that you can search by book for ideas they have accumulated. They also have a blog with more ideas.

NationalDayCalendar

Want to add a little fun to your schooling? Check out the National Day Calendar and see what is being celebrated when and then add it to your day. For example, today is National Homemade Cookies Day. Soooo, get the kids in the kitchen and make some cookies together. Talk about the ingredients, where they came from, how they were processed, measuring, fractions, cooking terms, et cetera. Talk about the process at whatever level your children are at.

I hope these ideas and links are helpful to you. If you have any subject you need help finding ideas on how to study with your child, comment here and I’ll help as best I can.

Until next time, God bless,
